Sophia Argyris was born in Belgum, her parents are English and Greek. She spent most of her childhood in the north of Scotland, and now lives and works in London. Her writing has appeared in many print and online journals in both the U.K. and the United States, including Inclement, Volume Magazine, Up The Staircase, Silenced Press, Pyramid Magazine and Decanto amongst others. She won the Up The Staircase poetry competition in 2008 and was a finalist in the Aesthetica Magazine Creative Works competition the same year. Her poems have also been included in several anthologies; Strange Longing For A Monday is her first published collection.
The poems in this collection are drawn from memories of her childhood in Scotland, in contrast to life in the city. They are filled with a sense of movement, feelings of loss, and the search for identity and belonging.
'Finely layered, a poetry of alienation and regret, of pain and promise - Argyris' poetry can beguile you with its delicacy and smother you with its intimacy.'
